Camp Participants

Our camp is designed to provide an intensive and enjoyable learning environment for highly motivated high school students who want to experience college life at Clemson University and who have an interest in economics and public policy.

We encourage applications from students who are entering their senior year of high school.

Space is limited to 30 participants per week so interested students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. The application deadline is March 23, 2007.

Camp Description

Students will attend lectures on various economic topics such as:

  • Individualism vs. Collectivism
  • How Markets Work
  • Ethics and Morality of Market Mechanisms
  • International Trade & Globalization
  • Economics & the Law
  • Gender Differences in Wages

Students will participate in group discussions and debates on these economic topics, they will have frequent interaction with both Clemson faculty and graduate teaching assistants.

Participants will also have an opportunity to experience campus living by staying in supervised dorms, touring Clemson University, eating meals on campus, and going on two local field trips. Students are expected to complete a set of readings that will be sent to them by June 15, 2007. This is a rare and valuable opportunity for outstanding high school students to get a taste of college life and experience an intellectually challenging curriculum.

Camp Cost

Thanks to a generous grant from BB&T, there is no cost to students to attend camp. All room and meal expenses are covered through this grant. In addition, each student will receive up to $300 to defer the cost of travel. Reading materials are supplied at no cost. Students who attend camp will also receive a certificate of achievement to honor them for their work, as well as a logo shirt and other gifts.
